After five years of working in fashion, with high-end designers through to fast fashion companies, I have gained solid experience and knowledge to understand the ins and outs of the industry.
Fashion brought me tremendous joy but I came to realise that it also brought tremendous pain and suffering for others, and for the planet. The Rana Plaza building collapse in 2013 was the tipping point for me. I made a decision to use my fashion design skills for the greater good.
So in 2014 I decided to launch COSSAC. I could no longer sit idly by and watch fast fashion eat the world alive without doing something about it. I knew the problem and I was also aware of the solution. I could use my fashion design skills to make a difference.
COSSAC is my solution to the destructive problem of fast fashion.
Now as many of you who have ever launched a business will know - to start a business is supremely difficult. When you consider time, energy and the capital resources involved, it can be overwhelming for any person, but particularly a creative like me who much prefers to draw, to design, to create.
Add to this the fact that fashion is a highly competitive ‘game’ with many established players and you soon realise the daunting task that lies ahead. To top it off, I wasn’t just starting any fashion label, but a sustainable fashion label. The level of difficulty is beyond any fashion richter scale!
When I took the plunge and decided to connect with retailers I never considered how quickly COSSAC would gain support. From one individual working around the clock to create an eco fashion label to partnering with passionate stockists across the world who believe in the work that we are doing, I feel so incredibly fortunate to know that people value our work in trying to improve the fashion industry and provide customers with design-led contemporary sustainable threads.
Our independent eco fashion label could not have the global reach it does without our amazing stockists. As a fashion designer, I value these partnerships. I recognise that forging strong relationships are essential to the success of my business, and in fact, any business. One person cannot possibly do it alone, you need help from others. In the words of English poet John Donne:
“No man is an Island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main.”
An independent fashion brand cannot exist without its stockists. It’s a simple truth.
So today I want to celebrate our wonderful stockists, 13 boutiques across the world who have gotten behind our brand and given us unbelievable support. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for believing in our work and embracing COSSAC’s sustainable fashion mission. Thank you for allowing us to follow our true passion: to create cool, fresh minimalist fashion that values all people within our supply chain and without needlessly ruining our earth.
