How to create your capsule wardrobe
Do you ever stand in front of your over-spilling wardrobe and ponder what on earth you are going to wear? Do you always end up going for your old favourites anyway? Well then, maybe it’s time to simplify your choices. In this blog we will give you all our tips on how to create your very own capsule wardrobe.
What is a capsule wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe is a well curated collection of a few essential garments (trousers, tops, shoes, dresses, skirts, coast ect) that don’t go out of fashion, reflect your personal style and can be mix and matched together with seasonal garments.
Creating your own capsule wardrobe takes the stress out of getting ready, saves you money on garments, helps you define your personal style and gives you confidence that everything in your wardrobe is a garment you feel comfortable in and love to wear.
Have you ever been on a shopping binge, bought lots of new clothes and then find you never wear them? Quite often this is a form of shopping therapy to make us feel better but actually just adds to the stress and guilt of getting ready when we have too many choices and find we never wear what we buy. A capsule wardrobe helps you to organise your fashion purchases and choose garments that really suit your personal style and helps you to reduce the wasteful purchases that you won’t wear anyway.
Four steps to create your capsule wardrobe
1 - Find your style and confidence
Start with one item. It can be anything, a pair of shoes or your favourite jeans perhaps. Using that item start to think about what you like about it, and why you always choose to wear it. Choose an item that you feel confident in as it will be the first building block to the rest of your wardrobe.
2 – Create rules
A capsule wardrobe is all about reducing the quantity of items you have in your wardrobe. To help with this you can create rules like “three of each item”, for example, three pairs of trousers, three jumpers, three pairs of shoes. Make sure you include all essential items such as accessories and seasonal items like coats for winter and dresses in summer. You can store you out of season items outside your wardrobe and re- organise your capsule wardrobe as the seasons change.
3 – The clear out
It’s best to start with a blank canvas so it’s time to empty that wardrobe. Take all your clothes out and place them in a pile where you can begin the sorting. Decide on some sorting criteria and begin to split your clothes in to piles. These are our sorting criteria but you can use your imagination:
Once you have sorted your clothes begin to whittle it down to the number rule you have set yourself. Taking care to think about your style and how all the pieces will fit together in outfits for the season.
4 – Make it a lifestyle
Once you have created your capsule wardrobe it’s time to make it a lifestyle. When buying new clothes take time to consider how it will fit into your capsule wardrobe and consider any seasonal items you may or may not need. Check out COSSAC SS16 collection for some conscious Spring fashion choices.
Choosing outfits will be stress free and you will always feel confident you are wearing something you feel great in, reflecting and defining your personal style.
