The sunshine is blazing through our window and teasing us, no, taunting us, demanding we ditch the indoor life for some outdoor summer adventures. We’ve put together a list of our favourite summery things to do in London this weekend - no pop-up is spared.
There are plenty of pop-up food markets to choose from in London but very few that are memorable enough to visit again, Summer Tales on Old Street is definitely worth a repeat visit. It’s more of an outdoors cocktail and drinks chilling spot than a food market, with its beachy vibe, tropical design and impressive line up of DJs and events for the summer months. If you want to feel sand between your toes, chill in a hammock with some delicious pizza and sip a fruity cocktail punch, this is the place for you.
Float along with a film
The Floating Cinema is one of the kookier ways to spend your long, hot evenings, floating along the London river ways. It’s currently on tour from Brentford to Bristol but come August 20th it will be back in London for a series of cultural treats as part of their ‘Extra Terrestrial’ events. Created by UP Projects and designed by Duggan Morris Architects, The Floating Cinema is a unique venue that can hold up to 500+ for an outdoor cinema experience whilst bobbing on the water. So if you’re up for something different, a culture vulture or an adventurous type then this should ‘float your boat’.
Burgess Park Life
Our trusty London green spaces, Hyde Park and Victoria Park, are a little packed out during these hot summer months. Thanks to the heaving, busy music festivals and the Central London masses migrating to catch some rays on the grass during their lunch breaks these two green spots are not providing the relaxing paradise that we crave.
However, Burgess Park is one oasis that remains undisturbed and makes for the perfect weekend park venue. After its recent face-lift the surprisingly large park now has a BMX track, a cool little BBQ and picnic area as well as a refreshing lake and fountain. Trust us when we say there is plenty of room to play a highly active game of Frisbee and run around to your hearts content without tripping over hundreds of other sun worshippers.
Now for the pop-up parties, Flamingo Pier has it all. An array of street food, DJs and cocktails all served on a floating pontoon outside Hackney Wick’s Counter Café. This venue has so much to offer its literally bursting at the seams due to its limited space so make sure you get down to their events early - the festivities even spill out on to the Counter Café’s canal-side boat (yes, another boat).
This year the Flamingo Pier team have ensured the events are really exotic by creating each night to a theme or ‘postcard’ of a tropical destination (Bali, the Seychelles, Phillipines and Burma) with food, drinks and tunes to match. These parties promise to take you out of city life and into Island life so are an absolute must for our summer ‘to do’ list.
I can hear you saying, ‘but I don’t have anything to wear!’. Don’t worry, COSSAC have you covered. Check out our summer sale for some ECO-HOT outfit options with up to £10 off.
