COSSAC are enjoying a long and fruitful love affair with Hackney Wick. We’ve hosted many events by the canal at Number 90 Bar and Kitchen, filmed a music video look-book with singer songwriter, Tiffani Juno in the woodlands and recently, took to the street of Hackney Wick to shoot Olivia G wearing COSSAC SS16 collection (see pics below).
So we thought we would share some of our love for the area in a tribute blog post, naming our Top 5 places to go in Hackney Wick.
1 – Crate Brewery
Crate Brewery is one of those trendy, multi-functional, notoriously cool places that are iconic to the Hackney Wick area. Part brewery, part restaurant and part event space Crate always has something going on and something delicious to drink or eat. It’s a bit tricky to find, hidden away among other warehouse buildings but you will be able to hear it before you see it as there’s always a happy drinking crowd chatting away in the summer on the restaurant benches by the canal.
2 – Canal Walking
There’s nothing more glorious than walking the narrow paths of London canals, past the narrow boats and barges. It’s a secret world where nature meets the city culture and creates a whole culture of it’s own. Time Out posted a great map of walks you can do including a lengthy route through our love, Hackney Wick. Why not play our favourite game and spot the houseboat you would live in.
3 - Counter Cafe
The counter café is one of those great places to hang out and take in some creative atmosphere. It’s, in their own words, an “independent, canal-side café and coffee roaster”. You kind of have to go there to see what it’s all about, so if you are in need of a coffee in Hackney Wick, this is the place.
4 – The Wick
The Wick is an eclectic festival / market that combines the lively, creative energy of the area with a shopping experience. You can browse through stalls of local and independent designers, discovering something wildly unique and reasonably priced. If you’re not a fan of the high-street this is a great event to discover new brands and even meet the designers. It’s on most Sundays, but check their Facebook page before going.
5 – Number 90 Bar & Kitchen
We had to give a shout out to our favourite venue, Number 90 Bar & Kitchen. You already know we love to use the restaurant and event space to host COSSAC events of the past such as our Boozy Christmas Fair, but did you know about another great feature of the venue, the hot tub supper club? Yes, that’s right, the venue also houses a supper club where you can eat your dinner in a hot tub. What else could you want?
